Zone Five Police Command begins enforcement of tinted glass and siren regulations in Edo and Delta States
The Niger State Police Command has commenced full enforcement of the Motor Vehicle (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004, warning motorists without valid permits to comply or face sanctions.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Elleman, personally supervised the exercise on Thursday at strategic checkpoints across Minna metropolis, where officers stopped vehicles with tinted glasses to verify permits.
During the operation, CP Elleman urged Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and their teams to remain professional, courteous, and firm while engaging with motorists. He emphasized that the measure was not punitive but a national security initiative aimed at curbing crimes committed under the cover of tinted glasses.
“Ignorance of the law will not be an excuse. Vehicle owners must obtain their permits promptly. This enforcement is about security, not punishment,” CP Elleman said.
The commissioner expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance and praised motorists for their cooperation on the first day of the exercise.
Quoting the law, he reiterated that vehicles without proper permits would be impounded and their owners prosecuted.

Lawmaker Commends Exercise
Among those stopped during the operation was Abu Adamu Gomna, a member of the Niger State House of Assembly representing Bosso Constituency.
Speaking after the encounter, the lawmaker commended the commissioner’s leadership style, saying it boosted citizens’ confidence in the police.
“I am highly impressed. Even as a lawmaker, I ensured I obtained my permit from the Force Headquarters. Seeing the commissioner subject everyone to the same checks shows fairness,” Gomna stated.
He added that strict enforcement of the law would help reduce criminality in the state.
The police commissioner appealed to the motoring public for continued cooperation, assuring residents that the Niger State Police Command remained committed to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
