Zone Five Police Command begins enforcement of tinted glass and siren regulations in Edo and Delta States
Abuja — The Zone Five Police Command, covering Edo and Delta states, has commenced strict enforcement of the ban on unauthorized use of sirens and the tinted glass permit regulations.
According to a statement by SP Tijani Momoh, Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, the exercise aligns with the directives of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun and applies to all vehicles with tinted glasses, whether factory-installed or aftermarket.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Salma-Dogo Garba, emphasised that the enforcement will also cover:
- Use of revolving lights and unauthorized sirens
- Vehicles with Police SPY and unallocated official number plates
- Unregistered vehicles
“Motorists yet to register their vehicles with tinted glasses are strongly advised to do so at www.possap.gov.ng. Thereafter, they should proceed to their state command headquarters for physical verification,” Garba said.
He added that motorists who do not wish to obtain the tinted glass permit must remove tints or replace factory-fitted glasses with transparent ones as provided by the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act 2004.
Garba warned field officers and their supervisors to ensure the exercise is professional and free from harassment or extortion. Any officer found in breach of the rules will face sanctions, and supervisory officers will also be held accountable.
He urged motorists to cooperate with police to ensure public safety and national security, while residents are encouraged to report any harassment or unprofessional conduct to the nearest police station, the command’s CRUs, or the ZPPRO.
The IGP Kayode Egbetokun recently announced that the strict enforcement of the tinted glass permit requirement will begin nationwide from Thursday.
