NCC commends NSCDC officers following anti-piracy operation in Sabo Market, Sagamu, Ogun State.
The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to combating copyright piracy and ensuring Nigerian creators reap the full benefits of their intellectual labor.
In a statement, Director General Dr. John Asein emphasises that the Commission will continue its enforcement efforts, especially as the Federal Government prioritizes the creative and copyright-based industries for employment, wealth creation, and national development.
Dr. Asein called on stakeholders, market executives, community leaders, school proprietors, and all Nigerians to collaborate with the Commission in the fight against piracy, aiming for a more prosperous and equitable creative sector.
He also strongly condemned the violent, unprovoked attack on NSCDC officers, who were providing security support during an anti-piracy operation at Sabo Market, Sagamu, Ogun State, in September.
The officers were ambushed shortly after identifying and impounding pirated books from an unmarked shop in the market.
“We commend the officers of both agencies for their restraint in the face of provocation and applaud their unwavering commitment to our renewed campaign against copyright piracy,” the NCC DG said.
The Commission highlighted that the enforcement drive is part of a broader effort to disrupt unwholesome activities that threaten Nigeria’s creative industries and protect the rights of creators nationwide.
