The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, has condemned the killing of forest guards and residents in Ogbayo, Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Professor Sulaiman described the slain guards as heroes who bravely confronted armed assailants before paying the ultimate price.
“The gallantry displayed is a priceless sacrifice for their community and for humanity,” he said in a statement issued on October 1, 2025, by his media aide, Mohammad Abdulkadri.
Calling for calm and vigilance, the NILDS DG urged residents to support security agencies and back the efforts of Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to flush out bandits operating in Kwara South and North.
He warned that the killings expose Nigeria’s worsening rural insecurity, which threatens lives, weakens food production, and disrupts community development.
Sulaiman, a former Minister of National Planning, stressed the need for stronger collaboration between citizens and security forces to defeat criminal groups. He also prayed for the victims’ families to find strength and for divine protection over Kwara State and Nigeria.
