The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a security guard, identified as Amos Kini, for allegedly abducting his employer’s two-year-old son and demanding a ransom of ₦5 million.
Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, noting that the incident was first reported by the child’s mother at the Elemoro Division.
“The incident occurred on 21st September, 2025, at about 23:50hrs, when the mother of the child reported at Elemoro Division that her security guard had absconded with her son and mobile phone to an unknown location without her consent. The suspect later used the stolen phone to contact the father of the child, demanding a ransom of Five Million Naira (₦5,000,000.00) for his release,” the statement read.

According to the police, investigations also revealed that one Aruna Dauda, who stood as guarantor for the suspect before his employment, was taken in for questioning.
Although Kini later released the child unharmed, operatives of the Tactical Squad (Hyena) continued the manhunt. “On 23rd September, 2025, at about 14:00hrs, operatives of the Tactical Squad, acting on credible intelligence, successfully tracked and arrested Amos Kini at his hideout within the Elemoro area. The suspect has since confessed to the crime and remains in police custody. He will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” Adebisi said.
Reacting to the arrest, Lagos Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, condemned the act and assured residents of the command’s resolve to crack down on violent crimes.
The police urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and advised members of the public to report suspicious activity through the command’s emergency numbers.
