The Ogun State government has announced that Value Jet Airline will begin passenger flights at the newly built Gateway International Airport (GWI) from October 7, 2025, marking a major milestone in the state’s aviation ambitions.
The development follows the airport’s Aerodrome Operational Permit approval by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority in August, which officially cleared the facility for commercial operations.

According to the flight schedule, the carrier will operate services on Tuesdays and Thursdays, connecting GWI with the nation’s capital.
Every Tuesday and Thursday, the airline will operate the GWI–Abuja route, departing at 8:30 am and arriving Abuja at 9:45 am. The return flight will leave Abuja at 4:00 pm and land at GWI by 5:15 pm,” said Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, in a statement on Friday
Value Jet confirmed that tickets for the new route will go on sale from September 25, available online, through travel agents, and at GWI ticket desks.
Akinmade highlighted the wider benefits of the launch:
“With the announcement, many travellers based in Ibadan, across Ogun State, Abuja, and Lagos will have connectivity by air to Abuja and beyond, while enjoying the added benefit of unbeatable facilities at GWI.”
The government says the airport is expected to boost business and industrial activity, offering faster access for contractors, bankers, government officials, and leisure travellers, while also providing an alternative route to Lagos for domestic and international connections.
Gateway International Airport, located along the Ilisan-Iperu Remo road, is one of the state’s flagship infrastructure projects under Governor Abiodun, envisioned as a hub for economic growth in Nigeria’s Southwest.
