
Rashidi Ladoja crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, in a ceremony graced by traditional rulers, governors, and eminent personalities.
Former Oyo State Governor, Rashidi Ladoja, has officially ascended the revered throne as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Ladoja received the crown at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area after performing the traditional rites at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, where he was presented with the symbolic Akoko leaf.
The grand coronation ceremony later took place at the historic Mapo Hall on Friday, September 26, 2025, drawing hundreds of residents and dignitaries dressed in colourful attire. He is expected to be formally presented with the staff of office by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

The installation attracted eminent monarchs and leaders, including:
- Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade
- Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Ọlaoye
- Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III
- Former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun
- Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso
- Former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola
- The Chief Imam of Ibadan
The event also witnessed heavy security presence, with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army ensuring a hitch-free ceremony.
Symbol of Tradition and Continuity
Ladoja’s ascension follows the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died on July 7, 2025. The Olubadan stool remains one of Nigeria’s most respected traditional institutions, admired for its unique and orderly succession system that distinguishes it from other monarchies in the country.
With his coronation, Oba Ladoja now occupies the historic position as the paramount ruler of Ibadanland, a city renowned for its rich cultural heritage and political influence in Nigeria.
