A coordinated security operation at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport has led to the arrest of a businesswoman, Okolonkwo Ebere Theresa, who attempted to traffic methamphetamine concealed in her underwear.

According to Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the arrest took place on Sunday, September 14, 2025, after Aviation Security officers of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), working alongside NDLEA operatives at Terminal 2, flagged the suspect during screening.

A detailed search revealed two parcels of white crystalline substance hidden in her bum pad underwear. Laboratory analysis later confirmed the substance as methamphetamine weighing 1.40 kilograms.
During interrogation, Ebere, a second-hand clothing dealer and POS operator from Enugu, confessed to being recruited by a drug trafficking network. NDLEA has since launched a wider investigation to identify other members of the syndicate and uncover her intended travel route.

The arrest underscores the agency’s heightened airport surveillance, which has in recent months resulted in major drug seizures and disruption of trafficking attempts. NDLEA says it remains committed to dismantling criminal groups exploiting Nigeria’s air transport system for smuggling narcotics.
