Obi urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, Speaker Martins Amaewhule, and other leaders to “admit mistakes, embrace peace, and work toward reconciliation.”
Peter Obi, Former Labour Party presidential candidate, has called on political leaders in Rivers State to draw lessons from the just-ended six-month emergency rule, warning that such interventions undermine Nigeria’s democracy.

Reacting to President Bola Tinubu’s suspension of the emergency rule on Wednesday, Obi said the episode should serve as a sober reminder to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, state lawmakers, and other stakeholders to acknowledge mistakes, embrace peace, and work toward reconciliation.
I just hope that some lessons were learned by all the gladiators in the Rivers State impasse. Great minds remind us that the only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing,” Obi wrote on his official X handle Thursday. A true leader is the one who admits his/her mistakes, is smart enough to learn from them, and is strong enough to correct them.”
While congratulating “the good people of Rivers State for their endurance in the face of provocations,” Obi urged Fubara, the Assembly, and political leaders to put aside rivalry and focus on peace.
The real mistake is the one where we end up learning nothing. Be assured that a new Nigeria is possible and inevitable,” Obi added.
