The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has banned all social activities beyond 6 p.m. following the killing of businessman Chiebonam Nweze during a student bonfire event
The management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has announced new security measures on its campuses, including a ban on all social activities beyond 6 p.m., following a violent incident that claimed the life of a guest during a student event.
The Acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Inya Egwu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, explaining that the decision was taken in response to the tragic killing of businessman Chiebonam Nweze, popularly known as Power-Autos, who was stabbed to death on September 12.
Nweze was attending a bonfire night organized by the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies when the event was reportedly hijacked by miscreants from a neighboring community, leading to chaos.

Egwu stated that the university has now directed that all student social events must take place strictly during daytime hours and under the close supervision of the University Security Unit.
Henceforth, the UNN management has directed that all such activities must be held strictly during the daytime and under the supervision of the University Security Unit. Social events of any kind will not be permitted on our campuses beyond 6:00 p.m., the statement read.
The university management described the incident as unfortunate and reassured the public of its commitment to protecting students, staff, and visitors.
UNN remains fully committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all members of its community and will continue to take every necessary measure to prevent a recurrence of such an incident, it added.
