Healthcare in Abuja takes a hit as ARD-FCT declares an indefinite strike over unmet welfare demands.
Healthcare services across hospitals under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) were on Monday thrown into uncertainty as the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD-FCT) declared an indefinite strike.
The decision follows the expiration of a seven-day warning strike, which the doctors embarked on last week after months of unresolved negotiations with the FCTA.
In a communiqué jointly signed by ARD-FCT President, Dr. George Ebong, and General Secretary, Dr. Agbor Affiong, the doctors said the action became necessary after authorities failed to meet their demands despite repeated engagements.
“We regret to inform the public that following the expiration of our warning strike and the failure of the FCTA to address our concerns, we have no option but to embark on an indefinite strike,” the communiqué read.

The doctors had earlier accused the FCTA of reneging on agreements relating to improved working conditions, payment of salary arrears, and other welfare-related issues.
The indefinite strike raises fresh concerns about the accessibility of healthcare services in Abuja, especially for patients who depend on public hospitals.
