Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership side, Naija Ratels, have appointed Coach Sabo Awala, as their new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Awala takes over from Samson Keshi, who led the Abuja-based club to a sixth-place finish at the NWFL Super 6 Championship in Ogun State last season.
The club’s management said the new appointment was aimed at injecting technical depth, tactical discipline, and a stronger winning mentality into the team.
A respected figure in the NWFL, Awala previously managed Confluence Queens, where he was praised for his resilience and ability to rebuild the squad after the loss of nearly two dozen first-team players.
He also coached Honey Badgers FC in Benue, where he earned a reputation for spotting and nurturing young talent, many of whom now play in the Premiership.
Speaking at his unveiling in Abuja on Wednesday, Awala pledged an ambitious season. “I’m very grateful to the management for appointing me as Technical Adviser of this great club.
We are going to put in everything humanly and technically possible to achieve a lot this season, and hopefully, we are aiming for the league title,” he said.
The Ratels’ board expressed confidence in his ability to align with the club’s long-term vision of developing youth talent and competing at the highest level.
With Awala’s tactical acumen and experience, the club hopes to build on its progress and mount a serious challenge for the NWFL Premiership title.
