Vice President Kashim Shettima hosts UNESCO Geoscience delegation at the Presidential Villa, pledges Federal Government’s support for developing Nigeria’s geo-heritage sites
Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to unlocking the economic potential of Nigeria’s geo-heritage sites through strategic partnerships with stakeholders.
Shettima gave the assurance while receiving a delegation from the UNESCO International Geoscience and Geoparks Programme, Nigeria National Committee, led by its Chairman, Dr. Aminu Abdullahi Isyaku, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He stressed that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is open to collaborations with states and relevant agencies to develop geo-heritage resources for job creation, sustainable tourism, community peace, and international research opportunities.
The Vice President commended the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency and the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, for their contributions to safeguarding the nation’s heritage sites.

“Nigeria is blessed with vast opportunities, and it is our responsibility to work together in repositioning the country for sustainable development,” Shettima said.
Earlier, the UNESCO delegation sought government support to complete the mapping of heritage sites and other ongoing geo-science projects nationwide.
The committee also pledged to align its programmes with the Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on climate resilience, hydro-geology, geo-hazards, and increased public awareness of geoscience benefits.
The meeting was attended by representatives of UNESCO, the Geological Society of Nigeria, and other key stakeholders.
