Nasarawa — Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested a notorious armed robbery and kidnapping kingpin, Mohammed Bammi, also known as Zomo, during a clearance operation at Doka Forest in Doma Local Government Area.
The suspect, who hails from Yelwa village in Plateau State, is believed to have masterminded several kidnappings and armed robberies across Doma and surrounding communities.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Rahman Nansel, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, noting that Zomo had narrowly escaped capture last month when his gang members were apprehended.
“This time, he ran out of luck. During the operation, he pulled a knife in an attempt to attack our men, but was swiftly overpowered and arrested,” Nansel said.
According to him, interrogation of the suspect led detectives to a hideout at Alagye village in Doma, where officers recovered dangerous exhibits including one pump-action rifle, a locally made AK-47 rifle with magazine, two Tecno phones, and a pair of NSCDC uniforms.
In a related operation at Gidan Taku village in Awe Local Government Area, police also arrested five suspected members of a notorious 10-man kidnapping syndicate believed to be terrorizing the area.
SP Nansel assured residents that the command, under Commissioner of Police Umar Nadada, remains committed to stamping out criminal networks in the state.
“We urge the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid security agencies in the fight against crime,” he added.
