Adegboyega Oyetola bows out of the Osun 2026 governorship race, calls for party unity and new ideas within the APC.
Former Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has ruled out contesting the 2026 governorship election in Osun, ending weeks of speculation about a political comeback.
In a statement on Monday, Oyetola emphasises the need for party unity and generational renewal within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He urged aspirants to prioritise internal democracy and work collectively to reclaim Osun from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2026.
“Our strength lies in unity and our ability to work together for a common cause,” Oyetola said. “It is time to give room for new energy and fresh ideas while rallying around the party’s collective interest.”
His decision reshapes the political dynamics within Osun APC, where he was considered a leading contender with strong party backing.
Analysts say his influence will still be felt as aspirants such as Bola Oyebamiji, Senator Ajibola Basiru, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, and Senator Babajide Omoworare intensify consultations ahead of a keenly contested primary.
Oyetola, who governed Osun between 2018 and 2022, now pledges to focus on strengthening the APC nationally while serving as a federal minister.
