
Young swimmers compete at the 12th Chief of Naval Staff National Swimming Championship in Asaba, hosted by Delta State.
Delta State has reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots sports development as the 12th Chief of Naval Staff National Swimming Championship kicked off in Asaba.
Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Hon. Onoriode Oborevwori, said the state is proud to host the prestigious event and will continue to support initiatives that promote youth participation in sports.
“We believe in developing young athletes and giving them the platform to shine.”
Oborevwori also described the championship as a critical platform for identifying and grooming young talent capable of representing Nigeria on the global stage. He stressed the importance of sustained investment in grassroots sports to build future champions.
“Events like this help shape the future of Nigerian sports, and we must continue to support them.”
Declaring the event open on behalf of the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Y.S. Idris reiterated the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to youth and sports development.
The championship, which officially began on July 16 after a one-day delay in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, is being held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Swimming Arena in Asaba.
Young swimmers from across the country are competing in various categories, with hopes of making a mark at the national level.
