The burial of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has been postponed to Tuesday, contrary to earlier reports that it would take place today.
The former leader died on Sunday afternoon at a clinic in London, following a prolonged illness.
A presidential delegation arrived in the United Kingdom on Monday, morning to oversee the repatriation of his remains to Nigeria.
Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Lawal Jobe, confirmed the change in burial plans during a briefing with journalists on Monday afternoon.
Jobe, who arrived at Buhari’s Daura residence at 11:27am, inspected the site prepared for the final interment. He said the delay is to ensure proper protocol and arrangements are in place for a befitting burial.
The former president is expected to be laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, in accordance with Islamic rites.
