Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has been replaced as Chair of the Diaspora and NGOs Committee following her suspension and court rulings.
The Nigerian Senate has removed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the PDP (Kogi Central) as Chairperson of the Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations, replacing her with Senator Aniekan Bassey (APC, Akwa Ibom North).
The decision, announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the close of plenary on Wednesday, takes immediate effect.
Senator Natasha had been under a six-month suspension from Senate activities over gross misconduct and violation of Senate rules.
Last week, a Federal High Court in Abuja found her guilty of contempt of court, fined her ₦5 million, and ordered her to publicly apologize in two national newspapers and on her Facebook page.
In a separate ruling on Monday, another Federal High Court affirmed the Senate’s disciplinary action, further validating her suspension.
The Senate leadership says the change in committee leadership is in line with institutional rules and the need to maintain order and accountability.
