Peter Obi says the ADC coalition is committed to competent, compassionate leadership that puts Nigerians first.
Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has thrown his weight behind the newly adopted African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, stating that the alliance is committed to putting Nigerians first in all its decisions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, Obi said the coalition’s adoption of the ADC as its political platform followed “deep reflection” on the country’s challenges and the urgent need for competent and compassionate leadership.
Obi, a former Anambra State governor, declared:
“Yesterday, the coalition members formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 Nigeria General Elections with Distinguished Senator David Mark serving as National Chairman and H.E. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary.”
He said the decision marks a turning point in Nigeria’s political trajectory and demonstrates a shared resolve among key opposition figures to work together in reclaiming leadership for national progress.
“Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 General Elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that will prioritise the nation’s future by putting the welfare of Nigerians first,” Obi wrote.
He also stressed the need for unity among reform-minded leaders:
“No one group can change Nigeria alone.”
The ADC coalition is made up of prominent politicians and defectors from the PDP, APC, Labour Party, and other opposition parties, seeking a united front to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle.
