The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says N1.28 trillion of the proposed N1.78 trillion 2025 budget for the capital will be spent on completing 14 major road projects.
Speaking during a budget defence session before the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on the FCT, Mr Wike said the capital component of the budget represents 72.3%, while N494.1 billion—27.7%—has been allocated for recurrent expenditure.
According to a statement issued by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) will oversee projects within the city, while the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) will supervise infrastructure works in outlying areas. The FCDA will receive N801.5 billion and the STDD N137 billion for capital projects.
The projects earmarked for completion include:
- Roads B6 and B12
- Arterial Road N20 linking Northern Parkway to Outer Northern Expressway
- Engineering infrastructure in Guzape, Wuye and Maitama II
- Extension of Inner Southern Expressway to Ring Road II
- Development of Highway 105 from Airport Expressway to Outer Southern Expressway
- Northern Parkway from Ring Road II to Ring Road III
- Dualisation of Ushafa–War College Road
- Construction of Pai to Gomani Road in Kwali Area Council
- Kuje–Gwagwalada dual carriageway
- Rehabilitation of Old Keffi Road
- Arterial Road N1 from Wuye to Ring Road II
- Access roads to FCT bus terminals
Mr Wike said the government aims to complete all 14 projects before the end of 2025, adding that the developments are expected to ease congestion and improve access across the capital.
“We are targeting projects that will impact traffic flow, shorten travel time, and boost economic activity,” he told lawmakers.
The 2025 spending plan is one of the largest in the FCT’s history and marks a renewed focus on infrastructure and urban development.
