The Nigeria Police Force has resumed the issuance of tinted glass permits nationwide, aimed at curbing criminal misuse, ease public tensions, and modernize road safety enforcement.
This follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, responding to widespread complaints over police harassment of motorists using factory-fitted tinted windows.
A statement from Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, says the renewed process will run through a secure digital platform—possap.gov.ng—offering QR-coded permits and a 72-hour processing window.
The Police stressed that while tinted vehicles have become standard in modern car manufacturing, they have also been exploited by criminals for kidnapping, robbery, and one-chance scams, posing serious security risks.
To balance safety and legitimate use, the new system integrates identity verification through NIN and TIN, alongside biometric and background checks.
A 30-day grace period has been announced, starting May 1st, after which enforcement will begin. The Force also warned that any officer who engages in extortion or misconduct during enforcement will face disciplinary action.
The Inspector-General reaffirmed the commitment to transparent and technology-driven policing, urging Nigerians to comply with the updated system for a safer, more secure society
