
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has donated N18 million naira to the Enugu State Government in support of victims affected by the devastating fuel tanker explosion.
The tragic incident that occurred on January 25 along the Ugwu-Onyeama axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, claimed several lives and destroyed at least eight vehicles, leaving families as well as the community in mourning.
Presenting the cheque on Tuesday, on behalf of the Speaker, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, who led the Enugu State Caucus in the House, described the donation as part of the National Assembly’s commitment to offering support in times of national distress.
“This incident is a huge loss—not just to Enugu State, but to the entire nation,” Abbas said through his representative.
“In moments like this, we must remind ourselves that no community stands alone. The House of Representatives will always stand with the people of Nigeria”.
”The Speaker emphasised that the gesture reflects the legislature’s tradition of showing empathy and mobilising assistance during critical emergencies across the country.
The Enugu State Government expressed appreciation for the support, describing it as a timely intervention to help affected families recover from the disaster.
