The Zamfara State government has extended financial assistance to victims of recent bandit attacks in Anka and Bukuyum Local Government Areas, reaffirming its commitment to tackling insecurity.
The attacks, which left 25 people dead and 20 others injured, underscore the persistent security challenges in the region.
Deputy Governor Mani Malam Mumini led a delegation to the affected communities, where he met with grieving families and presented financial aid to support them. Among those killed were 13 operatives of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG), known as Askarawa, along with vigilantes who were ambushed by bandits in Anka. Fifteen others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
Similarly, in the Adafka community of Bukuyum Local Government, bandits launched another assault, killing 12 people and injuring five. Addressing residents in Anka, the deputy governor expressed deep condolences and commended the security operatives for their bravery in defending their communities. He assured the people that the government remained firm in its stance against negotiating with bandits, except under unconditional surrender, and vowed to strengthen security measures.
During a visit to Anka General Hospital, Mumini sympathized with the injured security personnel, provided financial support, and prayed for their recovery. Local leaders, including the Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad, and the Chairman of Anka Local Government, Bashar Musa Anka, appreciated the state government’s swift response and solidarity with affected families.
In Bukuyum, the deputy governor assured residents of government intervention, including the construction of a road linking Adafka to the main highway to enhance security and mobility. Community leaders, including the Sarkin Kiyawan Adafka, Nafiu Shehu, appealed for more security personnel to be deployed to the area.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Zamfara State, Sama’ila Kwangwami, announced a donation of N700,000 each to Anka and Bukuyum to support the injured victims.
As banditry continues to threaten rural communities in Zamfara, local authorities and residents remain hopeful that sustained government intervention and enhanced security measures will bring lasting peace to the region.
