The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, has emphasised the need for a harmonious relationship between state governments and mining operators to attract investment and boost Nigeria’s mining sector.
Dr. Alake made this known during a mediation meeting in Abuja with Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and representatives of Segilola Resources Operating Limited.
He highlighted that conflicting regulations discourage investors and urged sub-national governments to align with federal policies to ensure a conducive business environment.
Governor Adeleke welcomed the intervention and reaffirmed Osun State’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly atmosphere while ensuring ethical standards are upheld.
Key issues in the dispute included tax claims, state shareholding, environmental concerns, and economic benefits from Segilola’s operations.
Following the mediation, both parties pledged to resolve outstanding matters, culminating in the presentation of the state’s shareholding certificate to Governor Adeleke by Segilola Resources.
The meeting was attended by senior government officials and company executives, signaling a step toward resolving the conflict and strengthening Nigeria’s mining industry.
