
The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that these projects are crucial for national development and will be completed on schedule to improve transportation networks across the country.
The Federal Executive Council has approved contracts worth N700 billion for the rehabilitation of major roads across the country.
The Minister of State for Works, Alhaji Muhammad Goronyo, told newsmen in Abuja that several key road projects will be rehabilitated, including the Alkaleri-Fukuk road in Bauchi State, awarded at N11.278 billion, with a completion timeline of six months.
Also approved is the Uturu-Isukuato-Akara road in Abia State, valued at N5.926 billion, set to be completed within six months.
The Zaria-Hunkuyi-Kolomani-Dambali-Maraba-Kanya-Subawa-Kasa road in Kaduna and Katsina States has been awarded at N198 billion, with a 36-month completion period, while the Kano-Maiduguri road in Kano State will be rehabilitated at N128.395 billion, expected to be completed in 18 months.
Other projects include the Bagudu road in Kebbi State, approved for N2.645 billion, and the Obanewi-Arundu-Zogo-Okigbe road in Imo and Anambra States, which has a revised contract sum of N8.405 billion, set for completion in six months.
The Iyin-Ilawe-Ekiti road in Ekiti State has been approved at N15.26 billion, while the Ilobu road connecting Kwara and Osun States will be constructed at N7.556 billion within six months. Additionally, the Wukari-Akwana road in Taraba State, valued at N12.615 billion, is scheduled for completion within 12 months.
The Bida-Lambata road in Niger State has been re-scoped, increasing the contract sum to N39.493 billion, with a six-month completion timeline. Similarly, the Gada-Gamji road in Kebbi State will be rehabilitated at N11.976 billion, with a completion period of six months.
As part of the approvals, the government has allocated N176 billion for shore protection along the Outer Marina in Lagos, aimed at safeguarding critical federal assets, including facilities belonging to the Navy, Army, and Police.
The Cham-Numan road and bridge in Adamawa State, which was severely damaged by floods, will also be reconstructed. In addition, the dualization of the Aba-Ekote-Benin road has been reviewed, with N30 billion approved for the first phase.
