Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has expressed concern and dissatisfaction over the treatment of Nigerian passengers stranded in Lomé, Togo, by Air France after their flight was diverted due to bad weather in Abuja.
The affected flight, originally scheduled to land in Abuja from Paris, was unable to land due to poor weather conditions and was redirected to Lomé. However, passengers were reportedly left without proper communication or assistance, causing frustration and distress.
Minister Keyamo emphasized that airlines operating in Nigeria must prioritize passenger welfare, particularly in cases of flight disruptions beyond passengers’ control. He assured that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) would investigate the incident and ensure that airlines uphold their obligations to passengers under international aviation standards.
The incident has sparked calls for improved contingency plans and better airline communication protocols to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
”Instead of bringing the passengers back to Abuja after the storm subsided, there are plans to leave them in Lome till Friday, even when that same flight will return to Abuja tonight to pick passengers”. The Minister stated.
