Four female students of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), were abducted on Tuesday night within the university premises.
A distraught mother of one of the victims confirmed the incident to Radio Nigeria, stating that the kidnappers had not yet contacted the family.
The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Isaac Itodo, also verified the abduction in an official statement, assuring that security agencies have been alerted and are taking necessary action.
As a precautionary measure, the university has directed all students to vacate the campus immediately.
However, the Benue State Police Command provided conflicting figures on the number of abducted students.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Sewuese Anene, only two students were kidnapped.
She added that security operatives have been deployed to the area, and an investigation is underway to track down the perpetrators and ensure the safe return of the victims.
