
President Bola Tinubu has applauded six Diaspora Nigerians named by U.S. President Joe Biden among the 400 recipients of the 2025 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).
Established in 1996 by former U.S. President Bill Clinton, PECASE is the highest U.S. government honour for early-career scientists and engineers.
The Nigerian awardees include:
- Azeez Butali, Professor of Diagnostic Sciences, University of Iowa
- Ijeoma Opara, Associate Professor of Public Health, Yale University
- Oluwatomi Akindele, Postdoctoral Researcher, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
- Eno Ebong, Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering, Northeastern University
- Oluwasanmi Koyejo, Assistant Professor of Computer Science, Stanford University
- Abidemi Ajiboye, Executive Vice Chair, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Case Western Reserve University
In a statement signed by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commend the recipients for their groundbreaking contributions to science and technology, describing their achievements as a testament to Nigerians’ global excellence.
The President urged the honourees to apply their multidisciplinary expertise to support Nigeria’s development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
